Here is the article they posted on the internet.
There is a growing demand for specialty educators. Schools need teachers, and they're not finding enough of them coming out of college. So school districts are turning to people like Jake Deviney.Deviney teaches seventh grade science in the Mesquite school district. He does not have state certification to teach in Texas. But he is allowed to teach because he has a science background. He is also completing an alternative certification program.
The program helps people transition from their career to teaching.
Certification providers say they are seeing interest in the program peak."It doesn't surprise me at all, with the way things are going, with the economy, how people say they need teachers," said Deviney.
"There will always be teaching jobs. Let's hit the alternative certification."Edith Buchanan coordinates teacher preparation for the Education Service Center in the Dallas area. The interest level has spiked among those attending information sessions, looking to find the same career opportunity as Deviney. The only jobs that may be available in districts are in critical shortage categories: Math, science, bilingual and special education.
